@savxcreative Would you explore any of these places? 🤯 Okay, it was about time I updated my list of abandoned places around Sacramento (and beyond), so here are some of the best spots I’ve found so far: 📍American Canyon Ruins Built over 100 years ago as a cement factory until it ran out of resources and closed in the early 1900s. It now remains as a site for graffiti artists to display their artwork, as well as a venue for events. 📍Preston Castle (Maintained by the Preston Castle Foundation) Located in Ione as the administration building for the Preston School of Industry in 1894, the architecture reflects a Romanesque Revival style to make the building look more like a school rather than a prison. The foundation seeks to preserve the building’s history and utilize it for special events! 📍Mather Air Force Base The bunker facility was originally part of the former Mather Air Force Base before it was closed in 1988 and reopened as the Sacramento Mather Airport. Security has been rumored to be tight here, so trespassing may not be safe. 📍Abandoned House A house with very unique, brutalist architecture, feeling almost estranged and nothing like the surrounding area. Think of: Trapezoid shaped doors and windows, plaster railings in odd shapes and asymmetrical rooms and hallways. Rumor is, the neighbors will call the cops on trespassers, so if you know the location, it’s best to admire from afar (I didn’t know this until after the fact). 📍Byron Hot Springs Hotel Built in 1902 as a resort, turned residence, army interrogation center and eventually monastery before being decommissioned. It’s rumored that the people who watch the place will shoot at you, so probably best to view from a distance. ‼️ If you do plan to visit any of these spots, please do NOT trespass on private property without permission and enter at your own risk, as some of these places can expose you to harmful chemicals and/or bacteria. And as always, take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints. Let me know if I missed anything, or if you want any more information - happy traveling! @savxcreative FIRST TIME in Japan! 🇯🇵 I’ve been reflecting a lot on my recent visit to Japan since it was my first time visiting and I honestly felt so inspired afterwards! Of course, I’ve traveled to a lot of places and experienced different cultures, met lots of people and tried tons of new things…but no country has challenged my perspective of the world or made me think as deeply as Japan did. Personally, I think this is because I spent the majority of my life with a specific image of what Japan was like in my head: how it was portrayed in the media or stories I’ve heard from others. But it’s SO MUCH more intricate and layered than that - it felt HUMAN. Walking down the streets and observing the architecture, listening to conversations, trying new foods, and adapting to their rhythms of everyday life has expanded my view of what the country is REALLY like: serene and beautiful. If there was a word to describe my experience visiting Japan, I would say it was eye-opening! Have you been to Japan? #travelguide #travelmore #visitjapan #traveljapan ♬ original sound - savxcreative
@savxcreative Kitchen Soft Launch at Offbeat! 🥳 I was SO EXCITED to hear that Offbeat was soft launching their kitchen this week while I was in town, so I RAN to try their new menu items! I was very impressed with the flavors of everything: the Black Sesame French Toast was so soft, sweet and their house made black sesame cream literally reminded me of my favorite Tang Yuan from Taiwan. My mom got their Ricotta Pineapple Toast and the sourdough bread was baked to perfection and the ricotta and pineapple flavors paired nicely (this was a bit on the heavier side compared to the French Toast)! I’m super excited for this new addition to their menu because I LOVE their drinks and every time I come in, everyone is incredibly friendly and sweet! ☕️ Ordered: Twice Hojicha w/ Whole Milk Ricotta Pineapple Toast Black Sesame French Toast Have you tried the new menu at Offbeat? #travelguide #travelmore #visitsacramento #visitcalifornia ♬ original sound - savxcreative
